1434712 Lubricant-containing polymer compositions SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 June 1974 [27 June 1973 (2)] 28686/74 Headings C3B C3P and C3R A composition is made by (a) mixing a lubricant (L) with a carrier (C) and (b) simultaneously or subsequently mixing the resultant mixture with a synthetic resin (R); where carrier (C) is an organic or inorganic powder having (i) m.p. the moulding temperature of (R), (ii) specific surface area #0À3 m.SP2/SP/g. and (iii) an oil absorbance of #0À22 cc. oil per cc. carrier; and quantity of (L) is 2-40% vol. of the composition, and #10À00 times the total oil absorbance of the carrier. The mixing may be performed using a mixer with rotating blades, or a low shear kneader, having #2 rotors; or a master-batch process may be employed. Carrier (C) may be polyamide, polycarbonate, or phenolic, epoxy or diallylphthalate resin, or PTFE; or C black, activated C, or graphite; CaCO 3 , basic Mg carbonate, clay, talc, silica, silicates, mica, quartz, diatomaceous earth, asbestos, Al(OH) 3 , Al 2 O 3 , acid clay, TiO 2 , Pb oxide, Cu oxide, Ti nitride, BN, Fe, Co, Al, or MoS 2 . Resin (R) may be polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS, polycarbonate, polyacetate, polystyrene, polyamide, polyphenylene oxide or sulphide, or poly-(butylene or ethylene) terephthalate. Lubricant (L) may be a mineral oil or grease, a hydrocarbon, ester, polyglycol, polyphenyl ether, silicone, or halocarbon; it may also include oiliness-increasing agents, e.g. saturated or unsaturated fatty acids, esters or amides, metal soaps, or octyl, lauryl, cetyl, stearyl, or oleyl alcohol. Also present may be fire-retardants, including phosphoric acid esters, halogenated aliphatic aromatic or alicyclic hydrocarbons, or other halogenated organic compounds, organotin compounds, Al(OH) 3 , Na borate, Sb oxide, talc, or NaHCO 3 ; antioxidants, e.g. phenols, amines, or organic S or P compounds; antioxidant promoters, e.g. organic S or N compounds, antistatic agents, e.g. anionic, cationic, amphoteric, or non-ionic organic compounds, or C black, CaF 2 , CaCO 3 , or stainless steel or Cu fibres; and fibres, e.g. of glass, C, or metal.
