This invention relates to a refractory composition comprising from 7 to 20% by weight of hydraulic cement, and as a filler material, at from 20 to 50% by weight of predominantly amorphous, dust-like silicon dioxide. The refractory composition itself may be used in the manufacture of a material required to have high fire and/or heat resistance or it may be used to improve the fire and/or heat resistance of an article, by being sprayed onto the article.
