A textile yarn is heat treated by being advanced through a duct contg. a heated mainly gaseous fluid (e.g. air/stream). The duct is vibrated continuously to allow the yarn to relax and bulk during the heat treatment. The bulked textile yarn is used e.g. for carpets or insulating material. The process is cheap and allows the yarn to bulk and/or crimp to a maximum extent.
