The shuttle boxes for a double-shed gripper loom are fixed in a static mounting so that each box is located in the zone of both sheds. Each shuttle box also has a carrier mechanism to bring the weft carrier out of the plane of one shed and into the plane of the other shed. The weft carrier is moved across the shed by a positively-driven carrier and take-up mechanism. The design allows the operating speed of the loom to be increased while reducing its operating noise levels and also reduces weft yarn wastage.
