1521522 Medical needle holder assemblies S ISHIKAWA 30 July 1975 31837/75 Heading A5R A needle holder assembly for use with a hypodermic syringe or venoclysis equipment, comprises a needle holder 10, Fig. 1, having a forwardly tapered hollow body portion 12 having an annular end wall 14 at its foremost end and a cylindrical extension 16 having a passage 18 for receiving a needle, and a filter 22 composed of a wad of a filament yarn of synthetic resin and located between wall 14 and an apertured wall 28 of a hollow filter retainer 24 shaped externally to conform to the interior of portion 12, the cavity 26 of the retainer being for receiving the syringe barrel for example. The yarn has a denier within the range of from 75 to 150, the wad having a density in the range of from 0.8 gm/cmSP3/SP to 1.6 gm/cmSP3/SP. The wall 28 may contain three apertures 30 arranged equiangularly about the axis of the circular wall and being of sectorial form, or it may be in the form of a grille. Alternatively the wall may have a central aperture surrounded by further apertures. Apparatus for producing the needle holder assembly comprises an elongated hollow transport tube 36, Fig. 4, having first feeding means 56 at the foremost end for positioning a needle holder 10 at one end of said tube, second feeding means 68 at the other end of the tube for positioning a filter retainer 24 at said other end of the tube aligned with a respective holder 10, and an open tube 52 extending vertically upwardly from a hole 50 in an intermediate upper portion of tube 36 for receiving a length of yarn 76 which is cut and allowed to fall into the tube 36, the yarn being prestressed and allowed to relax before entering tube 52 whereby it forms a tangled mass in tube 36. Suction is then applied to tube 36 through a vent hole in said tube, a hole 98 in the hollow body of a piston 90 behind the filter retainer 24, and the apertures 30. The suction causes the mass of yarn to move onto wall 28 of the filter retainer. The piston then moves the filter and the retainer to the other end of tube 36 and into the holder 10 where the filter is compacted. Instead of applying suction to the tube 36 air under pressure may be pressed into the tube to produce a similar flow of air.
