The attachment for centering purposes is placed into a spindle of a machine tool for adjusting the opening of a workpiece holder, a steady or a chuck to match the workpiece diameter. The centering is carried out simultaneously concentrically to the machining centre line of the machine tool. The arrangement is used for dimensional presetting of the workpiece holders. The arrangement has shank for holding in the spindle. It has a scanning stylus holder (2) on this mounting. The stylus can be rotated about its axis and it has two stylus levers (3) which can be pivoted about a transverse centre (7) apart in the manner of scissors. The stylus levers are returned to initial position by springs (8) which also ensure play free mounting of levers.
