Described is a single chain conveyor having a series of flights each pivoted to the chain near one end and each having an upstanding abutment which, during the conveying run, bears against member forming part of or attached to the conveying chain so that the flights are located across a trough along which material is to be conveyed. The abutment is passed under the chain at the end of the conveying run and the flights are trailed behind their pivots on the return run of the conveyor.
