The gear change for the bicycle chain has a set of gear cogs mounted on the rear wheel and a selector drive under the rear wheel hub to move the chain from one cog to another. A special fixed segment (9) is clipped to the rear frame, near the hub, with the curved part of the segment of the same size as the smallest cog. The chain can be looped over the fixed segment to allow easy removal and fitting of the rear wheel. The segment is rigidly located in the slot (10) in the rear frame. The chain is moved onto the segment by moving the gear selector to a special position, after removing a stop. The chain does not hinder access to the rear wheel.
