The portable article is used as a substitute for an ash tray. It may be carried about by a smoker for use, where an ash tray is not available. It can, in its simplest form, be an envelope made from aluminium foil coated paper or cardboard. Alternatively, it may be a double envelope with side faps. In both cases the flap can be fixed down after use to prevent spillage of ash. It may be printed with advertising matter, and alternatively may be of plastics, suitably treated. Many alternative designs are envisaged, and include a folding bag with a flap which can be used as a handgrip, or a folding cylinder or a collapsible dish shaped member with cigarette rests. Further alternatives include match box shaped designs.
