The binders consist of (a) a benzyl-ether resin dissolved in an organic solvent, (b) a hardener, (c) an accelerator and (d) a soln. of an asphalt or a bitumen in an organic solvent. Addn. of (d) to binders reduces water-absorption through casting cores after coating with aq. finishes. Lower concns. of binder may be used. Use of kerosene is obviated. Unmoulding of sand cores is eased.
