Hollow seal with internal coil spring - has coil spring core preventing metal of seal flowing into contact zones

The seal consists of a hollow elastically deformable e.g. cylinder in which lies a coil spring, short side parallel to the spring axis. When the joint is placed between two components and pressure applied, the cylinder surface, assisted by the internal spring pressure, deforms to seal the joints. The core of the deformable cylinder is formed by a coil spring of rectangular section which prevent material of the cylinder flowing into the contact zones of the surfaces to the sealed against each other. The seal is particularly for use where thermal expansion and contraction are expected.
