A valve 11 maintains a low pressure in the servo. A switch 29 prevents gear disengagement above a certain speed and a switch 28, operated by the accelerator pedal, causes the gear to re-engage. Where an engine brake is provided the system may operate only when the engine brake is not in use. The system ensures that too high an idling speed does not cause excessive creep and so acts against the brakes.
