The transport vehicle (1) has a floor which is raised above ground level. The load (2), which is to be positioned inside the vehicle, is on a flat pallet which is loaded onto a battery powered pallet truck (5, 7). This pallet truck is itself carried on the forks (4) of a fork lift truck (3) and is lifted and deposited on the floor of the vehicle. An electric cable (8) is connected from the pallet truck to a control box on the fork lift, enabling the operator to control the pallet truck. The load can be deposited or lifted anywhere inside the vehicle.
