Visible images are directly formed without development by exposing radiation absorbent particles associated wit a softenable layer on a light transmitting support, to high intensity activating rays; the absorbent particles may either be contained in the softenable layer, or may be on the surface of the softenable layer on the side opposite to the transparent support. No development is required and also, unlike previous processes, no discolouration occurs or deposition on the lenses used for focussing. The exposure time is reduced to the level of nanoseconds.
