The atomic frequency standard resonant gas cell uses a laser beam excitation pump for higher energy in the resonant frequency signal. The standard uses a specially designed solid state laser of appropriate wavelength. In the case of rubidium gas-cell an infrared laser beam of wavelength between 7800 and 7950 angstrom units is needed. For Caesium gas cells a different wavelength is required. The laser is tuned to one of te hyper-fine structure transitions. A filter cell is mounted between the laser and gas cell. The gas cell can contain Ca or Ru gas mixtures.
