Retractable window for car door, convex about horizontal axis - has two pairs of rollers with twin track rails to turn window to vertical position as it descends into door panel
The retractable window (4) is designed in partic. for car doors (5-9). It slides down into the hollow (6) door panel. It is of dual curvature in vertical cross-section, and is pivoted through a series of inclined planes as it retracts. A single compound guidance rail is employed, and the door volume necessary to accommodate lateral displacement is optimised. In vertical section the window (4) is divided into circular arcs of differing radii (R1, R2). The upper zone arc is of greater radii (R1) than the lower zone. The guidage rails (12, 13) extend continuously on the displacement path. The system may include two rollers (10, 11) which are fixed on each lateral window edge at a specific vertical stagger. The leading roller (10) locates marginally offset from the window edge and in the window plane. The trailing roller (11) is offset parallel to the plane.
