A measuring cable for use in a geological earth layer investigation system. The cable is designed with a minimum possible external diameter. It is resistant to mechanical damage and any breaks in the strands can be simply traced by an inductive measuring method. The cable consists of a number of twisted pairs of copper wires (2) insulated with a double layer of lacquer. The pairs are zig-zagged along the cable, so that along a given distance each pair will appear in the outer layer. The strands are enveloped in a polyurethane outer sheathing (5). The pairs are grouped and tied together by plastic threads.
