A stepped reaction tube used to contain the thromboplastic products used in the determination of the time of coagulation of blood, includes a tube which contains a reactive solution. A flexible stopper closes the tube and is used to retain a spherical magnetic element which is housed in a spherical cavity in the lower part of thes topper until it is released via a mouth into the tube. An upper cavity in the stopper is cylindrical and separated from the spherical cavity by a flexible membrane. The spherical element is removed by pressure from a cylindrical rod element in the upper cavity.
