1523159 Fluid heaters F GIOVENALE 17 Nov 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 47217/75 Headings F4A and F4S A fluid heater (e.g. for water or air) comprises a chamber 9 for fluid to be heated arranged above a burner 7, a combustion gas passageway 2 extending up into the chamber and a further combustion gas duct defined between the chamber and an outer wall 3; overlapping baffles 4, 4SP1/SP on the wall 3 causing the gases in the outer duct to follow a tortuous path. The apparatus shown is a water heater with a water inlet 8 shielded from the burner by a refractory plate 14. The baffles 4, 4SP1/SP extend alternately from opposite sides of the wall 3 and the wall is provided with a layer of insulating material (e.g. asbestos) which in turn is protected by thin metal sheetings. Portions of the wall 3 can be removed to allow maintenance. A safety valve 12 weighted at 11 prevents the build-up of excessive pressure in the chamber 9.
