The perforated instrument trays are supported within a U-shaped sheet metal lining above the steam inlet chamber such that steam flows up over the sides of the lining and downwards through the trays then between the trays to a vent valve low down on one end wall. By making the steam flow at relatively high velocity over the instrument surfaces, the efficiency is increased.
