The grinding machine has a grinding carriage (5) which runs on two rails which are mounted at either side of the machine bed. At one end, the rails extend beyond the workpiece clamping tables (2), which are mounted on the machine bed. The extension runs over a loading station (6) and carries, apart from the grinding head carriage, a workpiece transport carriage (9). This carriage is provided with workpiece manipulators (12) and moves between the loading station and the workpiece clamp tables. The workpiece manipulators are provided with electro-magnetic grips (15) which can be raised and lowered.
