Tetra:alkyl-bis-cyclohexyl:amine derivs. - prepd. by reacting bis-cyclohexanol derivs. with ammonia, useful raw materials e.g. for polyamide(s), polyurea(s) and polyurethane(s)
Tetraalkyl--bis-cyclohexylamine derivs. are of formula (I). In the formula R1-R4 are 1-6C alkyl gps.; and X is a simple bond, an opt. branched 1-10C divalent aliphatic methylene and if =1 of R1-4 contains 1C, a bivalent 6-12C cycloaliphatic a 6-8C divalent aliphatic with cycloalphatic substituents, a divalent 8-12C dialkylcyclohexane gp. or a divalent 8-12C dialkylbenzene. Pref. (I) are made by reacting bis-cyclohexanol derivs. (I: -NH2 = OH) with ammonia at elevated temps. in the presence of hydrogen and a Ni or Cr hydrogenation catalyst. Reaction is esp. 180-300 degrees C under a partial press. of H2 of 5-50 bar and a partial press. of NH3 of 150-500 bar. The mols ratio NH3 (II) is esp. 30:1. (I) are obtd. in good yield and have a light colour. They can generally be used without further purification as raw materials in the prodn. of polyureas, polyamides and polyurethanes with good colour and improved resistance to hydrolysis and elevated temps., and with reduced tendency to crystallisation. The (I) are esp. useful in the prodn. of polyamides with excellent hardness and transparency, low water absorption and resistance to elevated temps.
