The cylinder head is provided with a boring (7) to receive a turbulence chamber insert (6). The insert is cylindrical and provided with a flame channel (5). The insert length is less than that of the cylinder head boring (7) so that a gap (15) is formed between the flame channel facing (14) and the cylinder head gasket (2) when the insert is pulled up as far as the stop (8). The insert is held in position by the fuel injector. The insert is suitably bored and threaded to receive the fuel injector keeper which is provided with a corresponding thread. The injector keeper (9) is formed as a union nut which supports itself on a collar (12) with a seal (12) in the cylinder head. A peg (16) locates the insert in the correct position.
