Appts. for measuring the changes in composition of a gas stream as a result of contact with a catalyst comprises two composite film electrical resistance thermometers connected in series. The thermometers are held side by side in a holder. One has a catalyst coating exposed to the gas stream, while the other has its resistive track exposed to the gas stream. The voltage difference between the two thermometers is monitored. The appts. is esp. suitable for detecting composition changes in i.c. engine exhaust gases and can also be used as a mixt. controller for i.c. engines using fuel injection. Other uses include gas chromatography.
