The electric coffee maker comprises a fresh water container (5)from where water is supplied through a heater (2) to the filter and furring up indicator which is fitted with a water level measuring or setting mechanism (7) which is coupled to a timer (78), e.g. in the form of a bimetal strip. The level measuring unit is pref. associated with the fresh water container and can be designed as resistor (7) mounted in the container to extend over at least part of its height and interacting with the water. Alternatively two electrodes can be mounted in the container and either the resistor or electrode can be imprinted onto the inner wall of the container with the supply lines being sealingly passed through the base or side walls.
