Catalyst for the redn. of CO with hydrogen to form 1-4C hydrocarbon mixts. consists of Fe and opt. Cu as active component(s), produced by pptn. of complex salts of the formula Mex/Fe(CN)6/y (in which Me is a Fe and/or Cu ion; x = 1-4; y = 1-3). The novel feature is that, after sepg. and drying, thermal decompsn. of the salts in 2-20 h at 200-500 degrees C is carried out without redn. with hydrogen and opt. CO. The catalyst has a relatively high selectivity and can be produced economically.
