A roller or ball bearing has two parts moving relative to each other, each with a seating for rollers/balls between them, either or both the rollers and/or seatings being in elastic material. The balls are of elastic material so as to accommodate any inaccuracy in the intermediate space and prevent any play between the outer and inner sections. A suitable material is a fluorine elastomer or polyurethane. The bearings eliminate play, are of low cost, take heavy loads, provide quiet movement, are unaffected by dust or dirt, require no lubricant and can be used outdoors. They are suitable e.g. for telescopic supports for drawing boards.
