In a metal extn. process using sinter and condenser plants, a barrier a barrier layer is applied over parts of the condenser and other parts which are liable to receive deposits of metal and dust. The barrier layer is pref. of an alkaline earth metal cpd. Time consuming hammering and chipping is eliminated.
