1478682 Spinning in open-end spinning machines F STAHLECKER and H STAHLLECKER 27 Nov 1974 [4 Dec 1973 6 Aug 1974] 51438/74 Headings DID and DIN In a method of spinning-in a thread in an open-end spinning machine the spinning rotor is run at a reduced speed and a mobile spinning-in unit intervenes in the drive and/or control of means which feed sliver and hence controls the volume of fibers in the spinning rotor. The reduced rotor speed is achieved by spinning-in during the run up of the rotor. As shown in Fig. 3 an auxiliary drive in the mobile unit connects via clutch 48. 50 with the sliver feed roller 22 while the normal drive is disconnected by electromagnetic clutch 26. Prior to spinning-in the rotor 9 is held stationary by a brake 15 which when released and drive is resumed communicates via a lever 20 with a switch 45 in the mobile spinning-in unit to initiate the spinning-in sequence. A stop motion 29 which reacts to loss of yarn tension to disengage the drive clutch 26 of the sliver feed roller is maintained in its disengaging mode by a solenoid unit in the mobile spining-in unit. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 10, control of the stop motion 135 is employed to control the sliver feed. In this instance the feed is stopped by a sliver clamping member 155 which is also operable by a solenoid 157 in the spinning-in unit to feed sliver intermittenetly and hence give the starting characteristic 5 in Fig. 2. Various alternative means of controlling the sliver feed are described including operation of the feed roller by means of a drive wheel in the spinning-in unit.
