The assembly provides a number of different scales to be selectively positioned behind the pointer (12) of a meter. The pointer is mounted for linear movement along a track in response to a control signal. Two discs (7) are mounted for rotation on an axle (6) which lies parallel with the pointer movement, the discs being at the extreme ends of the axle. Symmetrically positioned around the discs are four axles (30) which carry the scales (N1-N8), these being rotatable about the axis. A motor is provided to rotate the discs by quarter turns so as to align successive scales (N1-N2, ---) with the pointer (12). In addition a cog wheel engages the axle of the scale farthest away from the pointer so as to rotate it by one half turn as it passes. In this way two complete turns of the discs will bring the eight possible scales to view in turn.
