Chlorazepam tablets sealed in an impermeable material - to prevent chloral hydrate loss and extend storage life

Unit dosages of chloroazepam (choral hydrate of 7-chloro-1-methyl-5-phenyl-1,4-3H-benzodiazepine-2(1H)-one) sealed in a material which is impermeable to chloral hydrate vapour, are new. For use as tranquillisers, anti-convulsants and muscle relaxants. Chlorazepam is stable on storage in bulk but individual doses in gelatin capsules lose 12% of the chloral hydrate content over 2 years. The new form of packaging prevents this loss. Typically, a tablet formulation of 20 mg chloroazepam together with conventional ingredients was sealed in individual wrappings of PVC blisters coated with Saran (RTM) on aluminum foil 0.254 mm thick.
