Rubber compsns. to stiffen tyre sidewalls - involving adjacent fibre filled and unfilled compsns

Tyre carcass incorporating next to the bread cord a sidewall zone extending radially inwards filled with a rubber compsn. (A) of 85-90 degrees Shore hardness, partially overlapping with a further zone filled with a rubber compsn. (B) of 70-85 degrees Shore A hardness. The harder compsn., (A) incorporates textile, metallic or glass fibres or a filler, whereas compsn. (B) is of pure rubber. Both compsns. are hard by comparsion with traditional materials for filling in between carcass plies reaching to the bead zone, resulting in improved resistance to excessive compression of the tyre by heavy braking or acceleration forces or deformation due to lateral stresses when cornering.
