Radial ply tyre carcass with polyamide and metallic cord reinforcement - for bead zone compressive stiffness with tread zone flexibility

A composite tyre carcass structure has reinforcing plies of aromatic polyamide fibres laid over the crown of the carcass cross-section and down part of the sidewalls, complemented by plies made from metallic filaments rising part of the way up the sidewalls from the bead zones, so that the polyamide and metallic ply layers overlap by =2.5 cm. Radial ply tyres, esp. for use under high compressive loadings, e.g. heavy goods or passenger vehicles. Arrangement combines high compressive stiffness near the bead zones with sufficient flexibility adjacent to the tread zone for good road-holding characteristics.
