The vertical telescoping mechanism is particularly for climbing tower cranes, where additional tower sections are inserted, there being an external telescoping cage with supports for a hoist mechanism on the upper part of the tower. The upper part (8) is inside the cage (1), and has components (9) sliding up the cage columns. The cross-section of the cage is greater than the external dimensions of the larger tower sections, and it is secured to the tops of towers of different cross-sections. The sliding components of the upper part of the tower can comprise a pair of rollers running against each of the cage columns, and either detachable from the upper part of permanently fixed to it.
