Intake air preheater for diesel engines with a fuel feed system for the cylinders where the fuel line feeds the injection jets of the cylinders with fuel at a pressure which varies as a non-linear function of the engine speed. The preheater consists of a burner in the intake air stream of the engine with a burner jet connected to a second fuel line. Specifically a metering device (40) is connected into the fuel line (32) to the burner jet (38). With increasing engine speeds, this metering device controls, in a linear manner, the feed to the jet over the complete normal speed range of the engine (10).
