A polarising current is periodically applied via a cathode to keep the anodic potential of the object within prescribed limits; and, during the pauses between the supply of current, the anode is short circuited with the cathode. Used in corrosion protection of plant in the chemical-, food- and textile- industries, and in the mfr. of cellulose or paper, Where a passive layer is formed on the metal plant. The short circuit assists in maintaining the desired anodic potential so the control equipment is less frequently switched on and off and the corrosion protection is more reliable.
