The maize harvesting machine has a picking device, connected to a coarse reducer, with a sieving device to separate out the leaf from the coarsely reduced material. A conveyor device feeds the material passing through the sieve to an ejector which is combined with a fire reducing device, to feed the material into a collecting tank. The coarse reducer (2) consists of two separate, centra-rotating groups of toothed discs. The spaced discs of one group (14) engage between the discs of the other group (141) and each disc is driven about an axis (16, 161) transverse to the direction of travel of the machine. The sieving device (3) is of equal width as the coarse reducer and consists of a group of series connected, driven feed drum (17-21), which act with a sieve or grating-shaped surface and are fitted so that they rise backwards.
