The rotary engine has a cylindrical housing containing two rotors which rotate in the same direction. Each rotor is fitted with a number of vanes which interlock with each other, the rotors having the same number of vanes. Each rotor is mounted on a half shaft. The volume between the vanes on each rotor is variable for compression, ignition and exhaust cycles. Ignition takes place when the volume between the vanes reaches a predetermined value which may be varied, to operate as a compression ignition or spark ignition engine.
