Insulating cover for underside of towed iceberg - has matting patchwork with floodable inflatable tubes anchored to cable fixings

The insulating cover for undersides of icebergs being towed is for flat-bottomed icebergs and is made up of matting joined edge-to-edge (12) with floodable/inflatable tubes (16) in parallel appropriately spaced. It is transported on a buoyant drum, unrolled on site and cables longer than the iceberg attached to ends (5) and sides (11). One set of cables is anchored on the iceberg, the remainder attached to tugs on either side, pref. by helicopter. The tubes (16) are then flooded and the cover towed into position, cables being progressively transferred to further anchorages. When all edges have been secured the tubes are filled with air to mould the cover to the iceberg.
