1502231 4 - Carboxamido - 5 - cyano - 2- imidazolone SAGAMI CHEMICAL RESEARCH CENTER 22 June 1976 [25 July 1975] 25999/76 Heading C2C 4 - Carboxamido - 5 - cyano - 2 - imidazolone is obtained by reacting diaminomaleonitrile with carbon dioxide in a polar solvent and preferably in the presence of an organic or inorganic basic compound as a catalyst. The product may be formed as a complex with the polar solvent (e.g. dimethyl formamide or dimethyl sulphoxide) or a salt with the organic base (e.g. triethylamine). It may be released from the complex or salt by recrystallization of the complex or salt from water, the latter preferably containing an acid in the case of a salt.
