1444199 Ag-CdO composite material SQUARE D CO 9 April 1975 [14 June 1974] 26406/74 Heading C7D A Ag-Cd O electrically conductive composite material is produced by mixing cadmium metal powder and silver metal powder, heating the mixture in a mildly reducing atmosphere such that oxidation of the cadmium metal is prevented to produce a silver-cadmium alloy in powder form and internally oxidizing the alloy powder to form cadmium oxide. The powder mixture may comprise silver powder particles of less than 350 British Standard mesh and may be produced in a two stage mixing process with an intermediate sieving step and may be heated at 200 to 700‹C in an atmosphere of 97%N 2 3%H 2 and oxidized at a temperature of 180‹C to the melting point of the alloy in air or oxygen. The resulting internally oxidized powder may contain up to 30 wt. per cent Cd O particles the majority of which are less than or equal to 20 microns and may be compacted at 5 to 50 tons per square inch sintered in air, oxygen, inert gas, vacuum or mildly reducing atmosphere such that the Cd O is unaffected at 600 C to the melting point of the powdered material, carried at 60 tons/square inch, resintered, recarried, hot or cold-rolled or extruded into strip or wire form and formed into contact pads or rivets.
