PURPOSE:To provide a thermoluminescent fluorescent substance (TL fluorescent substance) of a specific compsn. of Ce and Tm-activated barium silicate, the sensitivity of which is higher than the max. sensitivity of a conventional substance. CONSTITUTION:The TL fluorescent substance is made of Ce and Tm-activated barium silicate of formula I (where 0.5=x=3.0, 10-6=a=10-2 and 10-6=b= 10-2). PROCESS:The following 4 kinds of raw materials are weighed according to formula I, pulverized, and mixed; BaO or a Ba cpd. easily convertible into BaO at high temp., SiO2 or a Si cpd. easily convertible into SiO2 at high temp., Ce2O3 or a Ce cpd. easily convertible into Ce2O3 at high temp., and Tm2O3 or a Tm cpd. easily convertible into Tm2O3 at high temp. A flux such as NH4Cl or NH4Br may be used if desired. The mixt. is then calcined at 800-1600 deg.C for 0.5-5 hr and recalcined under the same condition once or more to obtain a TL fluorescent substance of good TL intensity.
