The unit is for roasting food products on a domestic scale for the purpose of altering their taste, and comprises an open frame which fits on a domestic ooking hob, and a cylindrical drum, rotatable manually around a horizontal axis, located in the frame. The cylindrical cover of the drum is interrupted over a part of the drum's length, and a cylindrical casing (8) with open ends can be pushed over the drum. This casing has a length permitting the interrupted part of the drum wall to be covered, and a crank drive (11-14) manually operated, provides the rotation of the drum.
