Slide fasteners are sewn onto articles by unwinding the fastener tape from a supply roll, sewing the tape onto a succession of articles and severing the tape sewn onto the articles along lines of weakness just prior to mounting the fastener slide. Sewn on closed slide fastener tape portions cannot be separated from one another before mounting slide.
