The preformed cables testing device is esp. suitable for motor vehicle types. Each wire is automatically and consecutively tested for continuity. When a wire is found to be incorrectly connected or broken, testing is stopped and the wire number displayed. A store holds each wire with its connecting and branching points in the cable. The stored wire can be called by its number and visually displayed. The cable (10) is laid on the mounting blocks (11) on the testing board (12). The testing device (13) examines each wire in turn while the associated number is displayed in the window (14). The indicator window (16) of the store (15) lies directly in front of the operative. The store (15) contains two endless belts (17, 18) made visible in the window (16).
