The converter has an inductance whose reactance is continuously monotonically variable by a magnetic core movable as a function of the test value. The core length or arc corresponds to at least the test value. The system has further a connecting element between the test value pickup and the magnetic core, and there is an evaluating device responding to the flux. The permeability of the magnetic core (7) varies over its length or arc in a manner analogous to an optical grey wedge, and the length or arc of the inductance is only a fraction of the magnetic core.
