The rotating separating surface of the machine is designed as a cylinder jacket whose elements which form the openings in the separating surface are provided with components on the outside which increase the dimensions of the peripheral faces of the opening. These components are designed to correspond to the outline of the openings and are fitted on at least the rear elements, seen in the direction of rotation. The parts of the household rubbish fed into the interior of the separating machine are thus not impeded by any built-in features but can remain in the interior until they reach the area having the right-sized openings.
