The supervisory circuit is intended as a standardised unit for use in conjunction with any battery. It thus preferably has its own power supply from a separate winding on the charger transformer. A level detector is connected to the battery potential and a fixed reference voltage. It controls, through transistor amplifiers, a relay, which operates a contact in the transformer output to vary the tap to which the main rectifier is connected. The taps give full and trickle charge respectively. Only the voltage divider network across the battery requires adjustment between one battery type and another.
