The rotary piston engine or pump comprises a housing (1) contg. a rotor (2) on a shaft (3). The rotor contains a number of relatively reciprocating cylinders (5) and pistons (6). The pistons are fixed relative to the rotor and the cylinders are caused to reciprocate by pins (5b) extending from the cylinders through a rotor side wall and engaging cam grooves (8) in a housing end wall (1a). The working chambers (7) within the cylinders are connected via ports in a rotor side wall and a ring (9) in the housing, with inlet and exhaust ducts parallel to the shaft.
