Objects are sped. from each other, by passing them along a rotating conveyor provided with openings through which some of the objects fall, whereas the remaining objects travel in the direction of the conveyor axis. The conveyor is pref. an open helix, in which none of the coils overlap so that gaps exist through which the smaller objects can fall, while the larger objects remain on the conveyor. One pref. appts. uses a helical coil of wire rotating above a bin into which the smaller objects are directed via guide plates; the larger objects travel towards a second bin.
